It depends if you have HDMI control messages enabled on both the TV and the end 
device supports it.  I can confirm Samsung does this with the Gen 4 Apple TV 
but not previous versions, Google Chrome Cast works this way as does Comcast, 
charter and FIOS set top boxes.  So it can be hit or miss but your general idea 
is sound. Samsung also provides spoken output so you can change sources very 
easily and not have to memorize or guess what port you’re on.
