At the moment, the built in apps are sufficient. I hid the majority of them because I do not want to be saddled with multiple subscriptions. I was disappointed to find out this week that even PBS wants you to be a "sustaining member" to access their premium content. Sad.

Anyway, I will be window shopping and add to my wish list.

So 3rd gen doesn’t have apps I don’t think the model I speak of is the one that
had internal memory and runs actual IOS or TVOS apps. Just for completeness
and accuracy.

And yes you most certainly can handle it if the AV control protocol isn’t
enabled on the box you’re attaching.

As far as models, you probably don’t want the ones I bought because of the
price but the ones I’m familiar with are the 7500, 8500 and 9500 series which
are basically different screen technologies with them all being 4K but the 9500
model hs quantum dots which is a much more accurate generator of pixels. That
being said you may not want to go so high end. What you want to insure is what
ever Samsung you go with it supports Voice Guide or they also call it
accessibility features.

Good luck.

Thanks Scott. Ok that sounds good to me, so if the other device does not
support the auto switching, it still is doable. Is there a particular model
that I should look at? My Apple TV 3rd still does what I want and I am starting
to use the apps more too.

It depends if you have HDMI control messages enabled on both the TV and the end
device supports it. I can confirm Samsung does this with the Gen 4 Apple TV
but not previous versions, Google Chrome Cast works this way as does Comcast,
charter and FIOS set top boxes. So it can be hit or miss but your general idea
is sound. Samsung also provides spoken output so you can change sources very
easily and not have to memorize or guess what port you’re on.

Am I correct in thinking that with one of these TVs, it will switch to an
active input source, such as Apple TV? Samsung brand? My current TV is 9 years
old, might be time to replace it.
