The built in sound isn’t bad now, I know what you mean it’s definitely improved from the initial slim frame days. The curved TV sounds good with a decent sound field in front. You have 3 preprogrammed sound modes including standard which is basically everything 0ed out, optimized which is their idea of enhanced and then amplified which seems to have the mids around voice boosted. Optimized isn’t bad so I go with that. In standard you can also set the equalizer which is completely accessible. The other nice thing is you get an optical out on the termination box where all your ports are. The nice thing about the larger curved televisions is you have a multi pin heavy cable that goes from the set to a break out box where all your ports are conveniently set up for you. No reaching around behind the set or leaving a gap against the wall so it’s very nice to wire up. You have optical out though so you can drop Dolby / DTS right in to your AV system. I myself go optical right in to a sound bar and use that instead of the built in sound but at night when I don’t want to use the sub I use the regular TV audio and it’s what I’d call very satisfactory. Not mind blowing but really good for a flat screen.
