There is Adobe's Packager for iPhone which allows a Flash developer to roll up their Flash app into a standalone iPhone app. Not quite the same thing as Flash on the iPhone.

although I have to wonder about the accessibility. I downloaded "Just Letters" which is one of Adobe's examples of an app built with Packager and on my iPhone the entire UI is inaccessible, just like Flash on the Mac. yay.

That said, I'm assuming the reasons for exclusion of flash on the iPhone are probably the same ones preventing Java and game emulators. Apple wants to lock out things on the phone which can download/execute arbitrary code pulled in after the fact. It's rather draconian but I can understand the risk avoidance of some hackery coming in and breaking somebody's phone. If the app store approval process is supposed to be some measure of quality/security it would be hard for them to make those assurances on something that can execute arbitrary code from unknown sources.

Hi,

At least not all Facebook games are flash, though. Thankfully. I hope they'll
eventually listen to the petition about flash accessibility on the Mac.

Also, I'd imagine that, if flash was available on the iPhone, it'd pose the
same potential security risks as it does on computers. Speaking of flash, don't
we actually have experimental flash applications in the App Store? I've heard
of a Southpark one. That's a game, of course. Hopefully, most flash apps will
continue to be games, in which case, accessibility to flash won't matter much,
anyway.

Nic

Yup, the problem is squarely in Adobe's lap as they haven't (publicly) lifted a finger to get VO support in Flash. Of course on the iPhone there is no flash support at all even though the device has been around for a few years now. Makes me wonder if there isn't some non-technical issues between Apple and Adobe. There certainly has been more and more overlap in products in more recent years (iMovie/FinalCut vs Adobe Premiere, Preview vs. Acrobat Reader, Pages vs. Adobe Indesign etc). http://macrevu.com/2009/06/adobe-apple-who-is-drifting-away-from-whom/

Friends of mine inside Adobe tell me that Mac is on their radar but not a

Hmm. That's too bad. It does work a *little better in Windows, but not much.
I do wish this issue of Flash on the Mac would get sorted out.

Not having ever played it Farmville is an interesting phenom with about 69M
monthly users. That makes it more popular than Twitter. With that level of
popularity comes some measure of responsibility including accessibility. That
said, I think it's implemented using Flash which pretty much eliminates the
possibility of accessibility for the Mac until Adobe starts to care.

I think in this case, the question should be more like has anyone
figgured out why you would want to play farmvill on facebook?
Sorry, couldn't resist, but to answer your actual question, a few
totally blind mac using friends haven't had that much luck with it; I
always assumed that this wasn't possible - probably for the best
really.

Hi all,

Just curious, has anyone figured out a way to play Farmville on
