Hi,

I wonder what VO setting you have different that has it just stop as opposed to
stopping and announcing the Authentication thing. I've tried it with low
verbosity. I've messed with custom verbosity on windows and web areas, still
with no joy. Have tried a number of other VO things with no real improvement
yet. I can make it last longer before it engages, but still can't get rid of
it yet.

Haven't given up though either.

Later...

Just ran a quick test. This is 10.13.1. I set the display to sleep after 1
minute and started a long read. All that happened was after a minute everything
stopped. No announcement. Did the same thing with the screen saver. Same
results. The screen saver did elicit the announcement under Sierra.
