Hello Mary,

I believe one can purchase a network attached storage device for around $120 or
thereabouts.

Also, if one has a modern router, one can actually attach any USB key or drive
and it will act like a NAS. The benefit of using a USB drive on a network
attached storage device is that one can easily use it as a stand-alone drive,
at any time. Rarely, very rarely, a NAS UI can become corrupt and this can
cause one to lose all of one's data. This happened to me, once. Fortunately,
I was able to recover the drive but, since that time, I use USB drives as NAS
devices, exclusively.

As you say, in order for this to work, one does need a router or hub that can
support such a configuration.

Like you, I have a lot of movies, television shows, audio books, that I have
imported into my iTunes Library, over the years.

I don't think setting up a USB router NAS system would be difficult should one
choose to undertake such a project as a learning experience.

Mark

Thanks, Mark. That is unfortunate. We don’t have one of those devices, and
they’re probably a pain to set up, if it’s even possible with my old Apple
Airport extreme router. What a bummer.
Mary
