No problem. I totaly grock needing to make good choices on a tight budget. It's a challenge, but it's also possible to be successful.
I faced a not dissimilar situation shortly after becoming an independent contractor. My employer had been buying my laptops for years. Now, here I was with the need of a laptop and very little money in the bank. I found myself a 18 month old laptop via Ebay that lasted me for years. I did upgrade its memory and it's mini-pci based ethernet device. Doing this required poking a particular value into the firmware at a particular address, and doing that required me to pick up a USB 3.5 inch floppy for the Thinkpad. I eventually replaced it with a top of the line Thinkpad in 2008 which I still use. My Airbook was my next laptop purchase early in 2014. I plan to get a few moe good years from it, hopefully.
