OK,
I got it working again.
I went to accessibility and dictation. I first went to the commands
table and unchecked and rechecked each item and . that seemed to give me back
most functions. I tried to check the advanced button in this area but it
didn’t seemed to stay checked. finally using the space bar seemed to check it
and I hit done and now things seemed to work as before.
I’m enjoying being able to say, computer, “ go to beginning” or “select all.”
And it just works.
Now I’m off to see if I can follow some directions I found to set up a way to
get Siri to work from a voice command on my Mac, similar to Hey Siri on my
phone.
has anyone out there accomplished that yet?

Look at the dictation area of the Keyboard system preferences. I generally
prefer using the hit Fn button twice to associating with a keyword. I have
found otherwise sometimes Voiceover causes dictation to start.
All the commands listed in the Accessibility area should still be available.
