A lot, actually. With a post paid account the telco knows the customer
will pay a certain amount monthly. This is not true of prepaid accounts.
It's possible the customer will not use the device much in any given
time period, i.e. prepaid account payments are often irregular and
inconsistent, whereas postpaid account payments are regular and
consistent.

And, while term contracts are rarer today, the historic situation is
that postpaid accounts typically locked the customer into a contract
over a certain period of time, typically one or two years thus adding
yet more stability to postpaid accounts.

As a result telcos have tended to treat services provided very
differently. A prepaid account plan typically provides less.
