Hi, The key that they are referring to is the actual letter "d" key. You hold down the "d" key on startup and the Mac is put into Diagnostic mode. All well and good, but Diagnostic mode is not accessible with VO, so, you're out of luck with this option. If you are attempting to see if a fan is working, I suggest Google searching something like SMC Fan Kit which allows for monitoring and modifying internal fan speeds. You do need to be careful with this app as it is only partially accessible and you do not wish to mess with too many of the default fan speeds unless you know what you're actually manipulating and the consequences of modifying it.
