Hello James, Yes, I sent Apple an e-mail about this, as well. I've experienced in two instances. Selecting text on web pages or elsewhere, or when deleting quickly in an e-mail or other fields. What happens if I lose speech, and I can't even bring VoiceOver back up. Only thing I'd get, regardless of what I attempted to do, was the ding sound that means "No, you can't do that." The Mac itself worked still, but VO was out of commission entirely.
