There is a much safer ay to do this, but it depends on whether the Mac is 
operational or not and being totally blind I'm not always sure. You could try 
this:

Open Terminal in Spotlight and enter:
sudo reboot
You'll be asked for your password.

However, this doesn't work for me. Probably because I'm using a standard 
account.
