Or like myself you could look at Outlook for IOS which still isnt’ perfect but it works And yeah I can’t say I’m overly impressed with the mail app on the iPad.

Normally, when in Portrait mode, the iPad behaves similar to the iPhone. When in Landscape mode, the iPad splits into containers. There's usually three containers, the Mailboxes, the messages and the content of the selected message. This is fairly easy to handle with an external keyboard, but I certainly could understand your confusion/frustration in Landscape with no keyboard. If you use G Mail, you may wish to look at Google's G Mail client. I believe it works with other accounts as well, but I don't know for sure. Later...
