They sound like USB C
Very similar to the lightening connecter for the iPhone or iPad

That will only work in the new 12" mac book or the newer mac book pros

Unless it's a USB 3 connecter and she has it around the wrong way
The USB 3 connecter is similar to a circuit board with a little knotch out of
it,that should go into the my passport device and the other end of the cable
should be the standard USB connecter,

But if its like the lightening connecter although slightly wider then it's USB
type c

Subject: A question about a My Passport drive and the mac

My friend recently purchased two my passport drives from a Target store. They
actually say, “My Passport Portable Storage for Mac”. She cannot seem to
connect them to any USB port on her MacBook Pro. They do not have a typical USB
end. It is little and thin. Does anyone know where it is supposed to connect,
or if there is a way to make this work? Is there an adapter? What makes it for
the Mac if it can’t connect? Is there a place on the Mac that is not USB that
is used?

Thanks for any information? I hereby pronounce myself ignorant!

drive the car to store. It's typically says my passport format.
