For myself, I have a very interesting setup. I started with a mediasonic
ProBox, which currently has 18 or 20 tb I was originally going to power it
with a Raspberry Pi. I had the setup I wanted about 90% complete, when I
hit a major snag with my hard drives, and couldn't get it resolved. then I
went out and bought a Windows 10 Micro PC for $150. This is a piece of
plastic about the size of an Apple TV, with all of the features of a full
PC. The memory in this thing is low for practical purposes. I scrimped
because I wanted it exclusively for a file server, and for that single
purpose, it works very well.
Then I installed tonido personal cloud and pointed it at my drives. Now I
have access to all my data in the cloud. So, I can play audiobooks and
music on my home server while on long car trips, and my family and friends
can get in and listen as well.
The tonido server web interface leaves much to be desired but with patience
it can all be done. The IOS and android apps are accessible. They were
not totally user friendly when I started, but for my purposes they now work
well. I've spotted a new micro with double the ram for about $200, and I'm
considering the upgrade. As with most people I make recommendations for, I
am finding that I sit on the file server and try to perform tasks it wasn't
really intended for and doesn't really have the giddyup to handle.
This may be overkill for most people's purposes, but now it's set up, I
really enjoy it.
Best,
Erik

Thanks Eric. Do you still use an NAS? Or what you rather use a cloud
service like Dropbox or iCloud?

My x bought wd mycloud and it worked really well. The browser interface
was fully accessible. It connected to mac and windows desktops seemlessly
across the network and it had fully accessible though not 100% cosey ios
and android apps. All in all, a great effort as of three years ago.
Hopefully it's still the same.
Best,
Erik

Hi,
has anyone experiences which NAS is recommendable for VoiceOver users on
the Mac and an i-device?
What I mean is which interface to control the NAS is most accessible to VO?
I consider one by Synologie or WD MyCloud and I don’t want to buy one which
I’m not able to use in the end.
Thanks and all the best
Jürgen
