Hi, Other than when a specific smtp server is unavailable, I don't know of a way to easily have Mail choose an alternate smtp server. There may be such a way, but I'm not familiar with it. That being said, having two accounts on your Mac is the best solution in my opinion. Since you likely have the forwarder set up through the G Mail web-interface, it should be easy to set up a rule on your Mac to just automatically trash or archive any G Mail messages that come to that account but the account would still be available for outgoing messages in the manner I suggested earlier. Not pretty, but should work fine.
I'll investigate a little more to see if I can figure out a different solution, but that's my best suggestion for the moment. Later...
