Hi Mary, I'm only just entering this thread, so I am sorry if I suggest something that Donna et al have already suggested. But if you use ITunes, there is an option to Activate your Audible account. ITunes will then ask you for your username and password.
Also, you don't need any special software as far as i remember to download Audible books. You can just download them with Safari and then once you've activated your Audible account via ITunes play them.
