ET, On my very old El Capitan system, space with 1,2,4,5 seems to toggle both input and output. I could not really check this very well, because when I typed things in the uncontracted mode, I got nothing for the gh or er patterns in the program that I was testing with. I guess that makes sense if I am still in UEB mode, but not supporting contractions.
But then, before this summer I could barely read Braille and I still get a little confused about some things.
