Hi Mike, 

This was my understanding to. You may wnt to check in the Mail preferences 
under the Accounts setting to check if you have asked Mail to delete copies 
from the server. Also, go to your provider's site to see if they provide any 
extra info for running IMAP optimally with Mail..
