Yes its frustrating but it works similarly to entering the passcode
in an iDevice. Focus is always on the first edit box and when the last
number is entered, if correctly, it's done.

Hello Angus,
You know, I have seen this problem before.
The Issue is that the insertion point be in the correct digit area, when you
begin typing in the 6-digit code.
Before you begin typing in your code, on your Mac, be certain that the insertion point is
located in an area that reads something like "enter digit 1". I know that this
can be extremely frustrating.
Once you learn how to insure that the first digit is in the correct place, you
should be good to go.
Oh, one more thing, there is no need to press any arrow keys or enter key after
entering a digit. The insertion point automatically moves to the next entry
point. Once the last digit is entered, there is no need to press enter, the
entry field dialog box disappears as you gain access.

Subject: Verification problem
I needed to restore my iPhoneXR from a previous backup. Iplugged in the iPhone
and from itunes, I chose a Previous backup. Everything went fine until I the
iCloud Verification. Every time I enter the six digit code, I am told that the
code is wrong and to try again. Going to to appleid.apple.com gives the same
result. Any advice on what to do? Thank you.
