Well, I'm glad you find it fascinating. :) Personally, I'm ready to put the iPad up for sale and throw in the keyboard as a free piece of ****.
The long and short of it seems to be that as long as I neither completely power off the iPad nor push the keyboard switch to the off position, the connection remains.
