I have experienced this issue for a couple updates now, I don't remember when
it started. It doesn't really matter to me, unless I am wanting to read line by
line for some reason. I wrote them about it, and they said they have had it
reported to them, but they can't reproduce it on any of their devices. As with
the device that rattles until you take it to the shop to have it fixed and it
won't rattle, they won't be able to do anything about it until they can
reproduce it. I have found that the more lightly I touch the screen, the less
likely it is to occur. Also, this latest update seems better than before. When
they wrote back to say they can't reproduce the problem, I loaded a book that
was acting really badly on this iPhone 6 onto my iPhone 5, and it worked
perfectly. So, it seems to be a problem only on a few devices. Whatever.

I have a very large file that I referenced often in voice dream reader. Voice
stream reports the file at 35+ hours of reading time. I noticed that if I make
the mistake of touching the text area, not the control buttons but the actual
text area, then voice dream is sent off into an unresponsive state. It is as
though it’s trying to do some heavy processing on the entire 35 hour long file,
and is totally unresponsive. My only option is to remove the app from memory
through the app switcher and start over again with a fresh copy of the app,
being very careful not to touch the text area with this particular file.
Anybody found this also to be true? Again, it only appears to happen with
extremely large files.
