Hello Angus, Hmm! Well, connection speed is definitely not an issue.
Have you attempted to rebuild the database from within the Mail application. I believe the option to rebuild your mail boxes is located under the Tools menu. If that doesn’t work, then you should search the net for how to delete the mail application database files, manually. Doing this will cause the Mail application to completely rebuild your mail files from scratch, when next it is opened. Please, please, please make a backup of your system before deleting any system database files, manually. If that doesn’t work, then, my friend, were I you, I would install a fresh copy of the OS onto my computer. You know, it’s funny; even with all of the new Macs I’ve purchased throughout the years, I haven’t installed a fresh copy of Mac OS onto my primary partition since 2011, yet my system continues to work like a charm.
