If you wish to keep your Mac on an older release for a year or two you can get 
by with keeping the old version kicking, but at this point they seem to get 
released together and upgrade together.
This is why you may think there is an annual license when technically there is 
not with this version.
Enterprise versions though are a completely different thing.

I only ever purchase the software once and if required an update later
