Hi, I usually use cmd-f instead of the regular Spotlight search. Not sure why, just prefer it. So, cmd-f then enter the search text and press return. Does the same as Spotlight, but I have more controls. Also, if doing this from within a specific folder or volume, there's a radio button where you can select to search from within the current folder/volume or on the entire Mac.
