Hi, I doubt that it has anything to do with indexing. I've seen this happen to a number of students lately, but chalked that up to a bit of mischief. I've also read that there's a script out there whereby, if it somehow infects your Google account, it will delete all mail and Google Drive files. As far as I can recall, it's a Google Chrome script, so it may not be a factor in this case. If the Trash was not emptied, then moving them back is about the best you can do right now.
