The best you could do is purchase a month by month Office 365 licence, It's about 16 dollars NZ so I'm not sure what that calculates to in US dollars. I'm not sure if it's still the same but office 365 did allow you to read docs with an un licenced version but that might only be on a computer not on mobile devices.
