In the folder, do a VO left which should land you on the Kind
button. This groups the different file types. .zip would likely then be
the last group in that folder.

If you type "zip" into the search field and then press down arrow a
couple of times you should find a menu item for zip archive. Also note
that unlike Unix and Google searches, apple meta data searches can
accept partial words.
