Hi Brianna, This is a standard VO Trackpad Commander gesture, and it works without positioning your hand sideways, with the palm oriented toward the center of the trackpad. Just keep your fingers close together, and the outside finger close to the edge of the trackpad, and the gesture will perform the action as you described.
