I have a Brother HL2700DW Multi-function Printer/Scanner, and my experiences
are pretty much the same as Janina’s.
My wife is sighted, so we were able to use the touchpad to connect the printer
wirelessly to our network. I am able to access the printer from all computers,
(both Mac and Windows) on the network. I can also print from my iPhone and
iPad.
My wife handles the scanning wirelessly from her iMac using the Brother iPrint
and Scan application, and says she has no problem saving a scanned file on her
computer.
I recently upgraded my wife’s iMac to Catalina, and installed the 64-bit
version of the Brother iPrint and Scan software on her Mac, and my wife
commented that she is now able to scan in color, which was not the case with
the earlier version.

Hi, Eric:

Especially if you have a wired ethernet port on your Brother printer,
you can happily share it across all your networked devices. This is
exactly what I do with mine, currently an HL2395DW.

Use Safari to access the relevant resources on support.brother.com. You
will likely need to install drivers that support your specific model.

I also use the mac address of my printer's ethernet port to dynamically
assign it the same IP address on every boot which allows me to add the
machine a globally accessible domain name.

Note that this also supports wifi access as you probably are providing
wifi via your router.

I have found things work pretty much as expected. The exception for me
is the scan function as mine is a multi-function device. I can scan from
my Mac, but I can't seem to save the results of my scan into a file.
That's annoying, but I get around it by using the corresponding Brother
application on my Android phone, Iprint and Scan, where scanning and
saving works as expected.

Best,

Janina
