Angus, Sorry to hear of your frustration. But interestingly enough, you do not need to be positioned on the item for the tapping. Once you have focused on the item and it speaks, a double tap anywhere on the screen is sufficient to launch. Use the swipe gesture to land on the item, then double tap anywhere.
