I finally got around to adding the three applications I like to have running as soon as my machine starts--Clock Chimes, VOCR, and SoundNotes. I opened System Preferences and immediately went to the Users and Groups button, then to the login applications table, unlocked it by clicking the lock button and entering the login password for my account, and pressed the Add button. What's supposed to happen next is you're supposed to find the application you want to add to this table in the usual manner--navigate to it--and press a second Add button. That's the way it worked in everything up to at least Mojave, as I remember. Now, in Big Sur, when you get to the point where you are to choose the application to add, it's no longer shown in a list or column view; it's now shown as an icon collection in column view, and I could not figure a way to change it. Moving through it with arrow keys does not speak the newly focused item. The only way I could figure to actually hear the thing on which the system was focused was to press VO-Down Arrow. Once I found what I wanted to add (after having to press a Back button to get to the top level of the Applications folder first), the rest was nicely accessible-TAB to and activate the second Add button. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, how did you get around it? In particular, how did you change the icon collection view from column to list?
