I need help with this terminal copy file command.
I need it to overwrite the existing file in the destination.
cp ~ % /Users/robert/Documents/Time\ Of\ Day.applescript
~/Library/Scripts/VoiceOver/
That appears to me to be the wrong command syntax.
The proper syntax is cp source-file destination-file-or-directory
See the manual page or any good UNIX tutorial. There are numerous
options, for example to copy an entire directory hierarchy recursively.
