I also much prefer the default setting of having VoiceOver speak the character that VoiceOver passes over. I think this is a big advantage to using VoiceOver on a Mac, versus it’s Windows counterparts. I find this to be much less confusing than the JAWS/NVDA standard of speaking the character to the right of the cursor. I really wish this option existed in JAWS/NVDA and even narrator.
