I'm glad to hear Time Machine worked well for you. I've used it to migrate 
stuff since 2013 and never had a problem.  That isn't to say it wasn't the 
problem this time, honestly, I have no idea what the problem could be.  But the 
guy at Apple didn't seem to think the time machine migration had caused it 
either.

Anyway, once i get the Big Sur update installed, I'll try booting into recovery 
mode, and see if that brings up VO.  My husband isn't a Mac user, so I'd much 
rather be the one who's wiping the hard disk.
