Hi all, Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions. But I think there’s a point that has been lost, perhaps in all the messages involved in this thread. There’s something really messed up on this computer. When I open accessibility preferences, and try to check voiceover, I get the spinning Beachball of death. So the problem isn’t that the volume of the voice is turned down to low. There’s something that is keeping VoiceOver speech from running. And I have no idea what it is or how to find it. Clearly, neither did the people at the service provider I went to today. This is something deep in the system somewhere and I don’t know how to find it. And I don’t know anyone who can help me find it. That’s why I’m going to return this computer.
