I think your best bet is using the time machine interface. You have to open time machine when you are in mail and use the slider to go back to a specific time in the past in which that folder was present. I have not done this in a long time, so someone else might have better, more specific directions. With the time machine interface, you have to use the window chooser menu to locate the time machine controls and then interact with the slider to go back in time.
