What I’m referring to is the following example: I’m in the folder view in Mail. I press the “J” key to jump to the first folder starting with that letter. If I want to then type another letter “J” or even if I want to type some other letter, I always have to wait about 3 seconds before it will respond. Unless of course I press a down/up arrow first and then type the new character.
That seems very silly to me. Of course, I’m an old Windows user and I liked being able to tap a letter key repeatedly and skipping from one item to the next with that letter to speed up searching. So for all the clever terminal command folks out there, is there a way to significantly shorten the required “dead time” before the Mac will wake up and respond to another keypress? And I’m thinking this is a system-wide restriction, because it exhibits the same behavior in Finder, Dock, and others aside from Mail. Thanks in advance.
