Speaking personally, that really can depend on the nature of your hands.
Mine are rather small, meaning that I will absolutely end up using a
full-size external keyboard to avoid that very thing.
Managing those combinations with my fingers does not seem to work easily,
again speaking personally.

The MacBook Air has never had a TouchBar.
The higher-end 14??? and 16??? MacBook Pros do not have the TouchBar.
Only the lower-end 13??? MacBook Pro still has the TouchBar, for now.
It is rumored that the current low-end 13??? MacBook Pro will be replaced with
a newer 14??? model, that will not have a TouchBar.
