Brad is correct with respect to eMail notifications within the iPhone Calendar app. The instructions I gave worked for me because I have eMails set at the server end of my Gmail account. Thus, when alerts are sent related to the Gmail account calendar, they are eMailed to me. At the moment, this does not happen on my iCloud calendar account, although it can be configured on a Mac to do so.
