I’ve had good experiences with ABBYY FineReader in a Microsoft environment, and I’ve read positive comments about the Mac version. However, the company is based in Russia, and it may be subject to sanctions, not to mention the moral issues involved given the current geopolitical situation. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable purchasing from them right now.

Beyond that, cost is certainly a prominent consideration. I’ll put it this way, if an extremely accurate OCR app runs around $50 I’m OK with that. I do not want a $3.00 app that is lacking accuracy. And one final consideration, I want to be able to link the app to readily open various image files (JPG, IMG, etc).
