Bill, that is correct. It is a new sound. A lot of discussion on this list about it when it first came out. Most of us do not like it. Report your concern to Apple directly, not just to Apple Accessibility. One note, you will need to learn to pause after the tone before talking to Siri. There is a time delay Before Siri start to listen. About one or two seconds after you hear the tone, then you can start talking to Siri. Otherwise your instruction get chopped off and Siri asked really dumb. Enjoy.
