Tom, for me, no advantage. Since I leave it open, I hear the first several lines of a message as I move up the list. Then I can decide if I want to open and read the entire message. Also, it will mark the message as read so it helps with my rules to move them to an appropriate folder automatically. Keeps the archives mailbox clean. I have my archives mailbox set to show only unread messages.
