Hi Rob,
The iPad Keyboard Dock doesn't work with the iPod Touch or iPhone
under OS 3, but it will work under OS 4 according to the Gearlog Diary
tests. Also, not to repeat my earlier message post to this list, but
the Apple keyboards used with the iPad are reported to support the Mac
shortcuts for editing, selecting, and navgating text. Again, this
does not work with the iPod Touch now, but it is already working with
the current version iPad OS 3 operating system, so it should work with
the iPod Touch under OS 4. More details and links were given in my
earlier post.
Cheers,
Esther

Hi Courtney,
As Rob states, in OS 4.0 you'll be able to use Bluetooth keyboards
and, as I posted earlier today in response to Buddy's post about
ordering the iPad, the iPhone and iPod Touch will also be dockable
with the iPad Keyboard Dock for typing input. We don't know about
voices yet, but the iPad with language rotor in the current OS 3
version doesn't have a male English voice; it just lets you select
between the different English regional voices and voices for other
languages. If you really want a male English voice or the option of
adding a separately purchased voice, you should write to Apple's
accessibility team with your inputs. The address is: [email protected]
Courtney, you might be interested in using the free, Simplenote app,
which will let you type in notes from your Mac that update instantly
to the notes in the Simplenote app. Or, if you're proficient at
typing on the iPod Touch, any notes you enter into Simplenote will
update and be available to you on your Mac without syncing your iPod
Touch to your computer if you use the free, Notational Velocity app
for your desktop. It's not a solution for the problem of typing,
but while you're on your Mac using Notational Velocity, or on any
computer using a web browser to access your free, secure Simplenote
web account through a web interface, anything you type in as notes
from the application on your iPod Touch, Simplenote web account, or
through Notational Velocity if you install it and associate it with
your Simplenote account, will be available to any one of these
access methods. This means, for example, that you could type things
in with your keyboard, then cut and paste from notes you have in
your Simplenote app. It's a lot easier to master using the rotor
for cut, copy, and paste, and using your delete key on the iPod
Touch than it is master keyboard text entry, though you should get
comfortable with that.
Most of these applications are discussed on the viphone list, but
I'll point you to the archived version of a post about Simplenote
that I sent to the Macvisionaries list:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg16452.html
("Simplenote for notetaking on the iPhone/iPod Touch with automatic
access from your computer'')
The link to the mac-access archived post described there is no
longer available, since they rebuilt their server (completing a move
to all Mac servers), but the post contains some details about the
layout of the app, and links to it at the App Store, and to the
Notational Velocity download site.
HTH
Cheers,
Esther

Thanks so much. I'm really looking forward to OS 4.0.

Wait until OS 4.0 They've managed to put languages in their own
section on the rotor, at least on the iPad, so there may be an
English male voice in there, and I'm hoping this will carry over
to the iPod Touch. Also there will be bluetooth keyboard support
as well. OS 4 should be a free upgrade for iPod Touch users. It'll
be out this summer.

Hi,
I was wondering first of all if there is a male, English-speaking
voice for the Ipod touch, if so where should I obtain it? And also
is there such thing as a QWERTY keyboard, bluetooth or otherwise
that works with Ipod touch. It's kind of a pain to type with it,
which is a shame, I'd like to buy apps on it, but I can only type
for about a few minutes without getting frustrated.
Thanks,
Courtney
