I don't know for certain if this may help, but sometimes after doing an ios update on my Apple TV I then find restart and click on it. I don't do it that often, but seem to recall you'll be brought back to the main menu screen or what ever its called after the system restarts. You should then be able to swipe around to your TV apps.
