That first method sounds like an interesting restoration method.  I’ve tried 
connecting it to a secondary computer, and it doesn’t seem to be reading it 
there either, so I can’t figure out if the power supply has gone out, or if the 
charging cable simply needs to be replaced, or something else entirely.
