If they did do this, a much better solution would be to have it off by default but allow it to be turned on if you knew what you were doing.
AT the end of the day, I don't like flash, html5 is great, I totally agree. However, the fact of the matter is that despite what steve says, lots and lots of sites still use flash. Now, I'm all for imbraissing concepts of the future and I don't really like clinging on to things that should have died there technical death a long time ago, but if apple were to do this, there would be a huge problem due to the number of sites that haven't adopted to html5. Osx users may well see themselves as people who are influencing the future and yes, we all will be if apple stop flash. However, will that soft & cuddley idealistic view be enough to carm you down when you *really* need to use that site that runs on flash? Will you still be happy with apple when you have to boot into windows just to see a website? Don't get me wrong, I understand that the I devices should never run flash - as others have said, it's a cpu hog - but on actual computers it's a different matter. Apple would still be able to influence the adoption of html5 by consumers in a fairly big way if they were to turn flash off by default since 90% of users wouldn't know how to turn it on and afterall, if html5 adoption is as large as they claim, again, the average user shouldn't notice a difference other than less cpu hogging. I just red that back and it comes off as pretty anty apple. I'm not about to replace all my pc's with macs, but I do congratulate apple for everything that they do for us blind foke and that is why I own 6 macs and 3 ipods.
