It sounds like you've got an ntfs file system on the drive.

You will only be able to write to it unless you format it as either fat 32
or a mac partition format.

Subject: disc permissions for an external drive

Hi,

I have a one tb Hitachi external drive which had been used on a windows xp
system.

Only around 150gb has been used.

I connected to my macbook, but can't write to it.
I've looked at the permissions which say I've only got read only access and
there doesn't seem to be a way I can see to change this.

Has anyone any ideas as to what I can do so I can start putting info from my
Macbook on this drive?

Kind regards

Graham
