Hi Carolyn, It is indeed possible to use the iPhone to connect to the net. This is known as tethering. In essence, turn on tethering on the iPhone, and then create either a USB or bluetooth connection between your laptop and the iPhone. I should say here that I don't know how US cell-phone plans work. Over here using the iPhone as a modem can cost extra, so you might want to check with your cell-phone provider to check the costs involved.
