Hi, I had trouble with this same problem, so it's my pleasure to help you. Thanks to all the listers who have assisted me with knowing this.
To copy Skype to the applications folder, go to downloads and select Skype. Hit command O ato open it. Then make sure you are on the Skype application file. THen just hit command C to copy it. Then just place it in the applications folder. There are several ways to open the applications folder, the way I do this is just hit VO space which brings up Spotlight and search for applications. Once the folder appears in the list, hit enter. You can also access the applications folder from the dock by navigating to it and hitting VO shift M. After Skype is placed in the applications folder, launch it, once it's launched, navigate to it on the dock and hit VO Shift M. arrow down to options and hit VO space. You will see something that says keep in dock, hit return on it, and now it will stay in the dock whether it's running or not. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day.
